AstraZeneca are looking for a technically skilled engineer to work on our Digital Lab Platform Team.
The engine of Research & Development is in our Labs - it's where 1500 scientists perform 100k experiments a year to support and drive our drug projects. We are looking for an Engineer to join the Platform team and deliver the technical changes in the portfolio of Digital Lab Applications, used by Scientists, for primary analysis, for lab workflows and driving lab operations.
In Early Science, we have highly skilled scientists in our labs who experiment and support complex drug projects. The environment is driven by scientific and technical innovation with a high level of diversity in workflows, data and vendors.
Working alongside your Platform Lead, architects and other IT and science partners, you will be working to understand, devise technical solutions, estimate and deliver and run operationally sustainable platform components. You will use your technical acuity to balance between COTS and home-grown solutions according to the requirements and in either case own its technical lifecycle and roadmap
What you'll do
Early Science Engineering is an expanding global development team which is migrating as close to as we can to a true DevOps model.
You'll work with a team of engineers, distributed across multiple locations to consistently and iteratively deliver high-impact, high-quality solutions
You'll take part in Agile ceremonies to estimate requirements and deliver tailored, complete solutions in a way that is operationally stable and sustainable. In our Platforms, if you build it you run it.
You'll follow standard methodologies when deploying bespoke code or configuration, reducing rework, continually looking for optimisation
Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices and evangelize great engineering culture
You'll be a key part of the team to transform an estate of silo'd systems into an ecosystem that delivers great user experiences
As a Digital Lab Platform Engineer you must have deep technical skills, along with the ability and willingness to learn new skills and technologies in a fast-paced environment We are looking for someone who gets excited at the thought of solving tough challenges.
You should apply if
You are technically proficient and curious, with a passion to explore, iterate, fail, and learn.
You are experienced working with a range of technologies & infrastructure (e.g. Java, .NET, C, as well as scripting languages like Python, VBA Script and multiple databases Oracle, My SQL, SQL Server and tools
You have experience with containers and cloud-native technologies, e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, Prometheus
You have experience with Rest API and services, general API
You know and care about sound engineering practices like continuous delivery, defensive programming, observability and automated testing
You have a good understanding of data structures and algorithms, and understand how to apply them to solutions
You have worked in a team and understand the importance of collaboration and is passionate about helping others.
Additional advantageous experience and skills include:
Experience with messaging middlewares, e.g. RabbitMQ, Kafka
Exposure to CMDB or inventory solutions
Experience in Pharma/life sciences including R&D Labs
