Role Description
Reporting to the CEO, the Medical Affairs Lead will work alongside the Commercial Operations Manager to provide technical support to both internal teams and external customers. They will act to bridge the research and commercial sides of the business.
The Medical Affairs Lead will be the face of the company, and their scientific and clinical expertise helps them facilitate the flow of information between the medical community and the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the Commercial Team — The Medical Affairs Lead provides help and direction to the Commercial Team in formulating scientific strategy, including the scientific input and expertise in the design and construction of all promotional materials and events.
- R & D — The Medical Affairs Lead will have a key input into all stages of clinical development including study design, initiation and monitoring.
- Medical liaison – The Medical Affairs Lead will provide in depth drug and disease state information to health providers in their territories.
- Informational services – to act as disease expert in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Activities range from educating team members, seeing that consumer questions are addressed, and providing informational services to health care providers in the community. The holder also formulates publications plans, and the reporting of pivotal trial results to the regulatory bodies, at scientific meetings and through journal articles.
- Regulatory review – medical affairs works with regulatory affairs experts (internal and external) to insure that all written documents are accurate and adhere to the guidelines mandated by regulatory bodies.
- Thought leader development — Cultivating relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (e.g., healthcare practitioners, academic researchers, experts in defined therapeutic areas); this involves providing information and other supports to persons who are recognized experts in their fields.
- Assuming the responsibility for additional clinical trials (non-registrational trials); reviewing the clinical trial proposals submitted by independent investigators and determine if the outcomes merit financial support for the study.
- Executing health economics and outcomes studies that can evaluate the impact of a product’s use on variables such as medical costs and patient quality of life.
The Jobholder:
- MD or PhD with medical background
- Experience in working in the Alzheimer’s and dementia field
- A strong and proven interest in the commercial aspect of the pharmaceutical industry and in bringing new diagnostic and/or therapeutic products to market in neurology and dementia.
- Pharmaceutical Medicine Specialty Training programme (PMST), which includes the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine (DPM) from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine desirable
- Thorough knowledge of the ABPI Code of Practice.
- Understanding of Alzheimer’s disease genetics and commercialisation of genetic tests for clinical use
- Proven ability to work independently
- A strong external network – academic and industrial
