Job Description -Program Manager

The Program Manager oversees one or more clients with work of significant size or volume as to be deemed a "Program." This senior team member will review the portfolio of work for operational consistency, application of best practices, and implementation of client specific initiatives.

Essential Duties
  • Set, collect, analyze, and report on program deliverables, milestones, quality, and performance
  • Generate, manage, & communicate program reports and metrics to the client
  • Oversee deliverables across multiple project teams, ensuring program goals are reached
  • Manage client expectations and relationship to proactively ensure issue resolution and team performance
  • Serve as a point of escalation and key contact for assigned Program clients
  • Work with study managers to utilize risk management methodologies to identify risks and work with the team to develop appropriate mitigation plans. Anticipate and address issues before they become major problems identify risks and opportunities across multiple projects within the client Program
  • Collaborate with leadership across all functions (e.g., Home Health Design & Set-up, Clinical Operations, etc.) to ensure program updates, share client feedback, and align client needs and departmental support
  • Ensure appropriate Governance Models and Reporting are in place for client Programs and participate as required
  • Provide client specific knowledge and information to proposal budgets and text as needed
  • Participate in bid defense presentations as required
  • Interface with Senior Management, as well as other departmental heads, regarding strategic operational planning while meeting client and internal business requirements.
  • Operate as a specific study manager for one or more studies within the Program, as needed
  • Continually review and implement methods for program delivery improvement
  • Lead the process to document lessons learned and resultant recommendations for the project/program
  • Manage program budget to ensure financial targets are met through regular review of direct/indirect costs and project resources.
  • Determine appropriate revenue recognition, ensures timely and accurate invoicing, and monitors receivables for project.
  • Represent ICON effectively and professionally in project calls, webinars, teleconferences and meetings.
  • Comply with ICON administrative, training and human resources policies.

  • Ability and willingness to travel at least 10% of the time (international & domestic: fly and drive).

Works to ensure that all team members are aware of pending deliverables and assignments; the required resources are secured to complete deliverables on-time and within budget; provide options of resolution as problems/issues arise which could impact the cost, timelines, and/or quality of the deliverables.

  • Lead or participate in initiatives related to the development of cross functional and departmental continuous improvement initiatives as it relates to standards, training and quality.
  • Quality
  • Monitor project/program metrics and project/program key performance indicators to ensure a high quality standard is maintained throughout the project.


Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferably in life sciences or healthcare) or 10 years' industry experience
  • Minimum 5 years project management experience or related experience required (home health experience preferred)
  • Experience analyzing, summarizing and presenting data to pharmaceutical clients
  • Knowledge of clinical trial terminology and practices highly desirable
