About the role

The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) & Coordinator will be responsible for the proactive implementation and upkeep of the site's EHS programs pertaining to biosafety levels 1 & 2 (BSL-1/BSL-2) laboratories and the general office. In this role, the individual will act as the site's point-of-contact for EHS information and training. The EHS Coordinator will report to Regional Head of EHS , relying on data and feedback from key stakeholders to assist in decision making that benefits both the business and employees.

This role has the opportunity to integrate existing EHS programs and develop new approaches as the company moves to a brand-new facility.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the Boston H&S committee including monthly meetings, and audits, moving actions forward
  • Coordinate site wellness programs and occupational health programs system, partnering where necessary with the occupational health provider and Human Resources
  • Coordinate emergency response (evacuation, hazardous material release, etc.) efforts
  • Conduct EH&S trainings and maintain documentation
  • Maintain and update the site's EH&S policies/programs/procedures, and assist in the development of new EH&S programs
    • These include, but are not limited to Biological Safety, Bloodborne Pathogens, Chemical Hygiene, Emergency Action, Environmental, and Hazard Communication.
  • Help to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal EH&S regulations (OSHA, EPA, MA DEP, MA DPH, etc.), as well as Abcam's Global Safety Standards
  • Coordinate with vendors and other Abcam teams to manage the site's hazardous waste and regulated medical waste programs
  • Facilitate risk assessments, ergonomic assessments, and implement resulting corrective actions
  • Partner with Facilities, IT and other Abcam departments to ensure all contractor and vendor activity onsite is in accordance with Abcam's EHS policies


About you

You are approachable, proactive, deadline-driven and care about the well-being of others. You work successfully under the guidance of management, but also can function autonomously, relying on data and feedback from key stakeholders. Your decision-making takes into consideration the interests of both your colleagues and the business. You possess superior written and oral communication skills and experience delivering presentations. You have a strong track record of driving change and influencing others.

You have at least two years of EHS experience with working knowledge of federal, state and local EHS regulations as they pertain to a biotechnology lab environment. You are skilled in Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Flows, Outlook, etc.) and other applications. You have EHS certifications or are willing to obtain upon hire (CHMM, ASP, CSP, CIH)
