This is an exciting opportunity to work within our Global Analytical Sciences Group based at the Granta Park, Cambridge facility. You will be joining the team involved in method development, in-process testing and technology transfer. With an exciting research pipeline, this is a great time to develop your career with AstraZeneca. As part of the team you will play a meaningful role in early drug development programmes by supporting the analytical characterisation of novel proteins (from peptides to antibodies).

Typical Accountabilities

  • To develop new analytical methods and perform routine analysis of development samples (process development, batch release and stability) using HPLC, UPLC, electrophoresis (CE-SDS, iCIEF), spectroscopy and compendial methods
  • Explore new technology for novel protein based products, as well as train and oversee junior members in this area
  • Work as a member of the team to ensure CMC goals and objectives are met
  • Accurately perform analytical testing according to established methods and SOP's
  • Selection and development of new techniques with the team to further develop in-house technology
  • Drafting appropriate reports and process documents
  • Attend and perform presentations at team meetings and co-ordination with other groups across the AstraZeneca
  • Ensures that work is performed in accordance with appropriate Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g. Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience


  • Candidate must possess a minimum graduate equivalent qualification with prior proven experience
  • Proven track record of analytical method development and method qualification/validation gained within a similar environment
  • Extensive theoretical and hands on experience of analytical chromatography techniques: including HPLC, UPLC (reversed phase, size exclusion, IEX), capillary gel electrophoresis techniques (including SDS-PAGE, IEF) and other lot release and stability methodologies
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment


  • Experience of developing, qualifying and trouble-shooting chromatographic methods for monoclonal antibody and novel protein-based products
  • MSc
