HEAD OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT

MedinCell is a financially sound, socially responsible company dedicated to Global Health, based in Montpellier (France). The company is facing a fast growth in the number of its Development Projects and needs to harmonize, improve and streamline its Development Project methodology. In this context, in order to improve the efficiency of the Drug Development processes, we are looking for a Head of Project Management to join our Montpellier facility to participate in our on-going success. As a senior seasoned professional, you will have overall leadership on the Project Management Team (PMT) for the planning, coordination and timely execution of assigned Drug Development projects involving cross-functional teams: CMC, Process Development, Non-Clinical, Clinical, Regulatory, Quality,

Responsibilities 

In this role, you will ensure the appropriate coordination of projects involving multiple functions, i.e. formulation developmentanalytical development, regulatory affairs, portfolio management, alliance management, preclinical safety, clinical studies, etc., to effectively execute drug product development.  In addition, as the Leader of the PMT, you will coach and lead a Team of 4-5 Project Managers who draw up binding project development plans based on a pre-approved project schedule matrix and be responsible for ensuring each project remains on schedule. You will develop tools and processes to provide the Drug Development Operations organization with an updated dashboard of the projects, enabling fast decision making and prioritization. Key responsibilities will involve:

  • Determine the overall strategy and process for the execution of each drug development project with the support of the operational teams (formulation / CMC, process development, regulatory affairs, toxicology, alliance management, portfolio management, non-clinical and clinical development, Quality, etc…) and external partners (if applicable)
  • Develop operational plans together with internal teams and partners (if applicable), including:
    • development strategy
    • realistic timelines
    • budget forecast and planning
    • resource identification and planning
    • risk assessment
    • contingency planning
  • Define and Lead the Drug Development Project Team (DDT) for each Development Project
  • Monitor and track projects against approved timelines and milestones, and ensure adherence to agreed objectives and deliverables
  • Prepare and lead regular updates and Project Team meetings with internal teams and external partners if relevant
  • Write reports in English for internal use or for partners
  • Identify bottlenecks, surface issues, and proactively drive for their resolution
  • Implement a regular risk assessment and investigate into contingency options re. assumptions, impact on budget, resources and timelines
  • Lead contingency planning efforts and ad-hoc cross-functional task forces as needed for problem-solving
  • Provide accurate and updated forecasting, tracking and adherence to Project plan and budget
  • Ensure that all Project data is accurate, up to date, and accessible on the server/SharePoint
  • Represent the DDT  on  review and strategic meetings, be accountable for the DDT recommendations to the Executive Committee, contribute to the development of overall strategies and implement the decisions endorsed by the review and strategic committees
  • Properly manage all the stakeholders of the Project
  • Consolidate and track project termination plans and ensure a smooth transition of programs to partners or commercialization

As the Leader of  the Project Management Team, you will propose, put in place and implement appropriate tools for:

    • Harmonizing processes and ways of working within the PMT
    • Monitoring metrics and performance of PMs and PMTs using appropriate KPIs
    • Evaluating projects against metrics
    • Proposing and implementing a Continuous Improvement Plan  to Project Management processes

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant work experience in a pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology company
  • Experience in the full drug development cycle from candidate selection to clinical proof of concept and late clinical development stages
  • Significant experience as  Project Manager, with experience in end-to-end project cycle for several projects
  • Expert knowledge of drug development processes and regulations
  • PharmD or PhD in pharmaceutical science ideally with an industrial pharmaceutical focus
  • Experience in international and multidisciplinary teams

  • Project Management skills:
    • Ability to accurately estimate timelines  for  each specific Drug Development step
    • Ability to plan sequential and / or concurrent activities
    • Ability to develop and manage budgets
    • Ability to determine priorities and critical path within project plan
    • Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously
    • Ability to perform a risk assessment of Development Projects and proactively investigate various options
    • Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary project teams
  • Interpersonal/communication skills:
    • Developing and maintaining relationships and communication channels internally and with partners
    • Representing the DDTs and the PMT at every level in the company
    • Effectively preparing and leading meetings internally and with third-parties in English
    • Effective international collaboration ability

Communication

  • Fluency in oral and written English with a very good working knowledge of French
  • Demonstrated ability and conceptual knowledge to produce high quality written reports and other documents, that effectively communicate in a clear, organized and concise manner to senior management and others for decision making
