Job Description
Fully proficient in research area. With the ability to work without supervision. Capability to mentor, train and develop less experienced scientists.
Typical Accountabilities
- Applies knowledge and expertise to generate and characterize stable cell lines for clinical supply of recombinant proteins in a timely fashion and to agreed quality standards
- Develops and maintains a level of knowledge and capability, perhaps extending to specialist expertise in cell line development
- Represents cell line development on relevant project teams, ensuring the provision of appropriate and timely data to the team
- Independently, designs and carries out cell line development and technology development experiments that require experienced knowledge, and develops and validates test methodology and specifications to achieve project aims
- Independently, assesses and reports data with an understanding of its reliability, interprets findings and draws conclusions and recommendations so that their significance can be appreciated
- Provides training /guidance to junior scientists on technical and functional processes
- Helps to develop new and innovative techniques and methodologies and draws up relevant investigations
- Liaises with colleagues from other subject areas with the purpose of discussing project-related matters, sharing experiences and reporting progress
- Develops own level of scientific competence by keeping abreast of relevant scientific developments, by collaborating with peer scientists or through contacts with internal groups
- Ensures that work is performed in accordance with Safety, Health & Environment (SHE), quality and compliance standards, e.g. Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Minimum Bachelors degree or equivalent and proven experience within stable cell line development, distinct advantage would be a PhD
- Experience in the biopharmaceutical industry
- Understanding of current principles, concepts and practical skills in molecular biology including expression plasmid design and construction, mammalian cell culture and stable mammalian cell line development
- Understanding of regulations and relevant compliance systems related to own area of work
- General understanding of other functions within Biopharmaceutical Development
- Good communication skills
- Good team working skills
Desirable
- Specialist knowledge in stable cell line development
- Experience with cell line screening technologies such as micro-bioreactor systems and cell culture automation
- Experience with CHO cell culture
