THE ROLE

 

As a Director, Statistics, you will be accountable for the statistical activities and line management of statisticians within the company. Guiding statisticians in their work, performing senior review of documentation and output deliveries, providing oversight and advising on best practices approach to statistics for clinical trials.  

Responsible for ensuring appropriate skills for the statistics functions. Determining hiring needs for the statistics function. 

Input to quality processes; creating and reviewing SOPs; tracking quality performance metrics; involvement in CAPA processes and ensuring implementation of quality processes. Represent statistics function at Management meetings.

Preparation of responses to proposals and quotes for prospective and existing clients.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

·        Prepare long term and short-term Statistics functions goals according to company objectives

·        Be single point of contact for Statistics function

·        Line manage senior members of staff within the Statistics function

·        Ensure that individuals are line managed so that each individual has the opportunity to reach their potential

·        Training and mentoring line managers within the Statistics function

·        Resolve any obstacles for statistics team members

·        Identifying areas of skill development for Statistics function

·        Work closely with cross-functional Operational leadership team

·        Communicate with senior management, executives, and senior leadership on progress, prepare reports and presentations as needed

·        Work with QA department to ensure risk management strategies in place

·        Accountable for ensuring Statistics SOPs are current and reflect the Statistics processes

·        Involvement in the CAPA process

·        Accountable for the development, implementation and adherence to best practices and the PHASTAR checklist

·        Accountable for developing and tracking performance metrics related to quality of statistics deliverables

·        Identify areas that new statistical processes are required

·        Work with Operational Excellence to implement new processes and ensure adherence to them on an ongoing basis

·        Monitor ongoing statistics function performance and look for improvements

·        Motivate and inspire others

·        Provide solutions/advice to issues/questions raised by team members

·        Initiating projects/ideas for furthering statistical research

·        Accountable for clear onboarding programme for statistical skills

·        Recruit, interview, hire and train new employees, as needed

·        Identifying strategies to increase retention rate

·        Oversight statistician for a program of studies or client

·        Provide statistical consultancy at study design stage or during program development

·        Project level or therapeutic area level documentation, e.g. project SAP, oncology SAP

·        Writing statistical sections of protocol for any study, as needed

·        Lead and represent statistics within project meetings

·        Carry out sample size calculations

·        Provide internal protocol review where statistical sections of the protocol have been written within PHASTAR

·        Ability to act as an unblinded DSMB statistician when required

·        Unblinded DSMB statistician involved in liaising with committee members, attending meetings in unblinded capacity, communicating committee decisions to sponsors, etc

·        Attending meetings as the independent statistician on the DSMB committee

·        Lead the development of the DSMB SAPs and Charters

·        Interactions with regulatory authorities

·        Provide peer review of ISE/ISE SAPs written by members of the Statistics function

·        Liaise with reporting teams and answer questions

·        Attendance and input to company resourcing meetings

·        Report any potential new business opportunities to the business development manager

·        Involvement in producing bid proposals for new opportunities

·        Helping to estimate resource required for potential new projects

·        Actively offer PHASTAR services for potential new opportunities with either existing or new clients.

·        Involvement in bid defence and other sales meetings

·        Maintain visibility to external customers (e.g. white papers, blogs, LinkedIn posts etc)

·        Maintain positive client relationships

 

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

 

·        MSc or PhD in Statistics

·        Excellent written and verbal English

·        Excellent teamwork, willingness to help others, ability to problem solve and seeing others point of view

·        Enthusiastic and positive outlook

·        Calm and professional under all circumstances

·        Implement approaches that will result in error-free results

·        Flexible and adaptable in outlook

·        Open to feedback with a view of continual improvement

·        Good SAS programming skills or knowledge of other statistical packages such as R or STATA

·        Good knowledge of SAS procedures required for conducting statistical analyses

·        Ability to work competently and independently in cross-functional teams

·        Proactive in identifying and resolving statistical issues throughout study conduct and feedback to relevant team members

·        Present posters and talks at external conferences

·        Provide internal training
