Job Details

Job Overview:
The Experimental Officer will perform most or all of the following tasks, or demonstrate knowledge of the following areas. More comprehensive details of each task or area of knowledge and the grade achieved are recorded in the relevant section of the training records.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and commitment to health and safety procedures and practice, particularly the use of personal protection equipment and COSHH initiatives
  • Individual has a responsibility to conduct all work in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, and specifically those regulations (GLP and GCP) specified in the study plans, protocols, or work agreements governing the work in which they areinvolved
  • Ensure that all study-based activities are performed in accordance with the study protocol and the Covance standard operating procedures (SOP)
  • Ensure that all study-based activities are performed to the required scientific and regulatory standards
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the role and responsibility of an analyst. This will include good housekeeping and labelling requirements, recording and checking of raw data, general metrology, use of analytical procedures, handling of samples and reference materials etc. A basic knowledge of the following is also required: the preparation of protocols, SOPs, analytical procedures, forms; evaluation of data; archiving; client and QA audits.
  • Maintain a familiarity and competency with general laboratory procedures, including the use of balances, pipettes, volumetric glassware, pH meter, preparation of reagents and analytical standard solutions etc.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and use of data systems - Nautilus, Analyst etc.
  • Demonstrate good communication skills and effective liaison with Laboratory Supervisors, Study Directors, Study Co-ordinators and other members of staff within department and from other departments.
Education/Qualifications:
  • B.Sc. or equivalent. Qualifications may be substituted for relevant work experience.
