Job Overview:
Are you interested in working in the scientific industry but have NO scientific education or work experience?

Would you like to play an important role in the fight against COVID-19?

Our site in York is currently recruiting for a Laboratory Assistant to support and maintain our COVID laboratories. This role is key to sustaining our labs to allow us to provide the best possible testing service.

This position will be a 6-month temporary contract; operating on one of the following shift patterns 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm and 11pm till 7am, five days a week. We will also operate a separate weekend shift for candidates who are interested in a part time weekend position.

Responsibilities:

You will provide the following support:

  • Provides support to laboratory analysts in preparation for COVID sample analysis.
  • Retrieve and check specimens against pending list. Document and resolve any specimen discrepancies.
  • Research and respond in a timely manner to internal customer inquiries regarding status of test results, retrieval of samples for testing/storage, and other needs.
  • General housekeeping duties (cleaning, autoclaving, waste management).
  • Stocking labs including ordering and booking in reagents/ consumables.
  • Routine use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Reagent Preparation.

Education/Qualifications:
* Ideally the candidate will possess an A level in Science (or equivalent educational standard).
Experience:
* Computing skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Office packages and Microsoft Project).

* Excellent customer service skills including attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, and effective communication skills.

*Ability to manage multiple tasks and work to deadlines effectively.
