TalentSource Life Sciences is currently searching for an experienced Characterisation Scientist to join one of our biotechnology partner companies in the UK. This is a permanent, office based position along the M4 corridor in Berkshire.
The successful candidate will be working on studies dedicated to one client .

The Characterisation Scientist will use a range of biophysical and physiochemical techniques to characterise proteins. These techniques will include chromatography (HPLC, UPLC and AKTA), electrophoresis (gel and capillary), spectroscopy (circular dichroism, FTIR, fluorescence), DSC and activity assays (SPR and ELISA). The data produced is routinely used in regulatory filings, requiring a high level of quality.
Job specific tasks and responsibilities:
- Analysis of protein therapeutics using a range of techniques, including HPLC/UPLC, CGE, FTIR, CD, DSC, SPR and ELISA
- Interpretation of results
- Accurate and timely record keeping
- Contribute to authorship of analytical aspects of regulatory submissions, technical procedures, protocols and reports
- Communication of results to the team and management
- Tackle scientific problems
- Develop analytical methodologies
- Assay and instrument troubleshooting
- Research specific analytical protocols (literature) and keep aware of latest analytical techniques
- Ensure high levels of quality and data integrity
- Ensure maintenance of lab equipment
- Ordering of lab supplies and consumables
Education, Qualifications & Experience:
- MSc or similar in scientific field
- Proven laboratory experience in the pharmaceutical environment
- Previous experience within a characterisation or method development team
- Extensive experience with the following analytical techniques: chromatography (HPLC, UPLC and AKTA), electrophoresis (gel and capillary), spectroscopy (circular, FTIR, fluorescence), DSC and activity assays (SPR and ELISA).
- Knowledge/experience with glycan characterisation or immunogenicity assays
- Experience in the Development environment and the level of quality required to produce data used in regulatory filings
- Knowledge and experience of GxP
- Able to work to a high level of quality
- Timely and accurate record keeping
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to tackle complex scientific problems
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Strong communication skills
- Able to work as part of a large team
