Essential Function

The Biomedical Engineering Technologist (BMET) performs skilled work under supervision. He/she has good knowledge of schematics, maintains records and makes report. He/she primarily performs preventative maintenance, repairs and safety testing. He/she can deliver staff training on equipment safety and proper operation. He/she selects and requisitions needed parts; coordinates repairs with outside firms. He/she can be technically responsible for complex study under close
supervision. He/she oversees the Unit's device pool and is responsible for the timely provisions and proper operation of medical devices including computerized systems for the use in studies in Clinical
Pharmacology. He/she is responsible for the administration, installation, maintenance, testing and servicing of the Unit's equipment based on local legal requirements and FDA regulations. He/she also administers leased equipment and assets provided by third parties.

Key Accountabilities
  • Provision of tested medical devices (incl. computerized systems) for study purposes in a timely manner and based on legal, corporate and study protocol requirements.
  • Performance of basic support tasks for the supplied devices during office hour
  • Provision of consumables related to the device use (if agreed so with the study team/Early Phase clinical operation management).
  • Receipt, administration, data-basing, installation and testing of new medical devices.
  • Creation and maintenance of device documentation according to legal requirements.
  • Organization, performance and documentation of required periodic safety tests, functional checks, preventive maintenance and calibration efforts.
  • Collaboration in the device and consumables/ accessories purchase process as required.
  • Initiation of repairs, shipment, documentation and eventually decommissioning of devices.
  • Participation in vendor's initial training, manual administration and supply of user training.
  • Maintenance of the device room.
  • Collaboration in device qualification and process validation.
  • Assumes other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications

Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Aptitude and proficiency as a Trainer.
  • A flexible attitude with respect to work assignments and new learning.
  • Ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with enthusiasm and prioritize workload with attention to detail.
  • Solid IT skills.

Education
  • University degree in biomedical/biophysical engineering or equivalent or College/University graduate (or other equivalent) in a Science, Technology, medical technology subject or equivalent.
  • Health care professional with adequate work experience in a research environment.

Language Skills
  • Good standard of written and spoken English.

Minimum Work Experience
  • Adequate experience in clinical research or local legal requirements and FDA regulations on medical devices.
  • Some experience of laboratory, medical or clinical computer systems preferred.
  • Some experience of validation processes (such as 21CFR11) in clinical research computerized systems preferred.
