Job Details

Oxford BioMedica is a pioneer of gene and cell therapy and our work is helping to deliver life changing treatments.

Gene and cell therapy is the treatment of disease by the delivery of therapeutic DNA into a patient’s cells, providing long term and potentially curative treatments for a wide range of diseases. With the potential to transform medicine, the sector holds significant promise with the first commercial products now launched and others rapidly approaching the market.

Our recent successes are driving significant growth. As such, we are looking to recruit a Scientist 2 to join our Early Development Group.  Oxford Biomedica’s Design and Discovery Group (DDG) is seeking to recruit a scientist to support our gene therapy programme. The company has a platform of exclusive and pioneering technologies on which are designed, developed and manufactured unique gene and cell-based medicines.

A highly motivated individual will work within this team-orientated group developing the next generation of gene therapy products. The successful candidates will be involved in:

  • Support the development of our gene therapy programmes currently under development within the group
  • Lentiviral vector production and characterisation
  • Establishment and validation of functional assays
  • Laboratory management
  • Other activities within the Research Group

Key skills and requirements:

  • Master degree in relevant Bioscience (e.g. molecular biology, virology or gene and cell therapies)
  • Experience in lentiviral vector technology would be a distinct advantage, but not essential
  • Relevant lab technical experience with particular emphasis on molecular biology, tissue culture and PCR-based techniques
  • Experience in neurobiology advantageous
  • Demonstrable excellent lab-based skills
  • Demonstrable ability to work well in a team
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge in lentiviral vectors would be an advantage but not essential

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  1. Undertake experimental work including molecular biology, viral vector production and tissue culture for new and existing programmes as required
  2. Keep excellent experiment/data records
  3. Support other members of the team and the wider Research Group as required

Company

Oxford Biomedica is a quality and innovation-led viral vector CDMO that enables its clients to deliver life-changing therapies to patients around the world. One of the original pioneers in cell and gene therapy, Oxford Biomedica has more than 25 years of experience in viral vectors, the driving force behind the majority of gene therapies.

Cell and gene therapy is the treatment of disease by the delivery of therapeutic genetic material (DNA or RNA), into a patient’s cells. One highly effective approach to delivering genetic information is to re-engineer existing viruses to be safe delivery vehicles (vectors) to insert the genetic material into patients’ cells. This can be achieved either by directly administering the vector to the patient (often referred to as in vivo gene therapy), or by first introducing the genetic material to cells or tissue outside of the body, before administering the cells or tissue into the patient (often referred to as ex vivo gene therapy or gene-modified cell therapy).

Oxford Biomedica collaborates with some of the world's most innovative pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, providing viral vector development and manufacturing expertise in lentivirus, adeno-associated virus (AAV) and adenoviral vectors. Oxford Biomedica's world-class capabilities span from early-stage development to commercialisation. These capabilities are supported by robust quality-assurance systems, analytical methods and depth of regulatory expertise.
