We have a 12-month fixed-term opportunity available for a Scientist to join our Research team, based at Bio-21 Institute. As a qualified scientist you will join a high-profile research focussed, laboratory-based team that works at the interface between research and clinical development. You will support the R&D of therapeutic proteins by developing and implementing high-quality bioassay and biomarkers. You will provide important information to allow for scientifically based decisions in research, toxicology and early clinical development studies.

You will lead the scientific research from the bench, with the development of relevant new assays and assess the feasibility of biomarkers and bioassays for inclusion in research, GLP toxicology and clinical studies.

You may partner with our research colleagues from across the global research sites including Marburg in Germany and Bern in Switzerland.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Provide and apply well-developed scientific and technical capability in respect of bioassay and biomarker development to support research and development of novel protein based/biologic therapies
  • Maintain awareness of new scientific/technical strategies in the area of bioassay and biomarker development
  • Assess novel target specific bioassays via literature reviews and experimental screening to determine relevance and suitability to address program goals.
  • Attend, participate and present at research group meetings/reviews
  • Ensure documentation and recording of all laboratory notes and research on projects is up-to-date, secure and accessible in accordance to Laboratory Notebook guidelines
  • Prepare clear standard operating procedures, validation protocols and scientific reports.
  • Collaborate with the supervising Senior and Research Scientists in planning and carrying out experimental work relevant to project specific goals

To be successful:

  • You will have tertiary qualifications in Science along with laboratory experience, with at least 3 years experience in pre-clinical and clinical development of biopharmaceuticals or equivalent related experience in industry or academic environments.
  • You can undertake novel approaches to basic scientific questions independently and part of a team
  • You have hands-on assay development experience of novel and bespoke biomarkers using analytical techniques such as ligand-binding assays (ELISA, MSD, bead arrays, multiplex), enzymatic assays and cell-based assays.
  • You will have excellent communication skills and be able to grasp complex problems, identify solutions and make data-driven recommendations to support programs.
  • Experience working with scientific graphics programmes.
