The Opportunity

CSL is hiring a Research Scientist to join the In vivo Pharmacology group on a 12 month fixed-term contract. The In vivo Pharmacology Group is responsible for evaluating and understanding the mechanism of action of protein-based therapeutics in animal models of disease.

Reporting to the Head of In vivo Pharmacology within Research, you will oversee aspects of the Cardiovascular & Metabolism pre-clinical in vivo programs. You will also evaluate, establish, develop, conduct, and supervising animal models of cardiovascular or metabolic disease for conducting proof-of-concept and proof-of-mechanism studies.

You will work directly with a small team of research scientists and with an extended team across different areas within CSL, and will develop and manage relevant external collaborations.

Your Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and conduct proof-of-concept in vivo studies to create data packages to help develop selected drug candidates;
  • Oversee and conduct in vivo and in vitro experiments to understand the mechanism of action of selected drug candidates;
  • Contribute to the development of novel approaches to treat Cardiovascular & Metabolic diseases;
  • Ensure laboratory practices and animal ethics submissions meet required deadlines and comply with all relevant regulations;
  • Remain current on the competitor landscape and other general aspects in the field of Cardiovascular & Metabolism;
  • Contribute to the identification of external experts in Cardiovascular & Metabolism for establishing new collaborative opportunities;
  • Manage relevant external collaborations;
  • Supervise and train junior staff in the above activities.


Your Skills and Experience:

  • PhD in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g. cardiovascular medicine, physiology, pharmacology, cell biology, etc) and up to eight years post-doctoral experience working in animal models of cardiovascular or metabolic diseases;
  • Broad expertise and skills related to the establishment and use of cardiovascular or metabolic animal models of disease;
  • Experience developing, breeding, maintaining and using mouse strains for disease models;
  • Prior experience with submission of animal ethics applications;
  • Experience with in vitro assays such as histology, imaging, flow cytometry or ELISAs;
  • Ability in assay design, data analysis, and statistical analyses;
