Why Put Hobbies and Interests on Your CVAlthough your hobbies and interests may not be as integral to your CV as your work experience and education, including them is a great way of making your CV more individual, and of demonstrating your transferable skills. Here are some examples of hobbies and interests that could work well on your CV, along with the skills and traits they demonstrate:

  • Sports: teamwork, communication and potentially leadership skills
  • Art and design: creativity and attention to detail
  • Blogging: initiative, proactivity and high level of knowledge of a particular subject

Choose hobbies and interests that reinforce your application by demonstrating some of the key skills and traits that would help you succeed in the role, and that you’d be happy to discuss in an interview. This will give you the opportunity to build rapport with your interviewer by giving them an insight into who you are beyond your qualifications and workplace achievements.

Lastly, be specific about your hobbies. The above examples are very vague and don’t really give recruiters and hiring managers an insight into your character. If you want to put down sports, why not expand on this by including the team you’re in, the role you play, or recent milestones and team achievements?

Although hobbies and interests aren’t the main focus of your CV, they can nicely round off your application by being included at the bottom. They can confirm to the person reading your CV that you are as skilled as you say you are, and that you’d fit in well with the organisation.
