Why You Should Customise Your LinkedIn URL
When you create a profile on LinkedIn, you’ll automatically be given a URL that contains your name as well as random numbers and letters. Customising this URL is an easy way of making your profile more professional, and of improving your visibility to recruiters.
A simple thing to do is to use one of the following formats:
linkedin.com/in/[firstname][surname]
linkedin.com/in/[firstname][companyname]
Following these formats will make your profile easier to find, and will make you appear more professional, detail-oriented and even technologically savvy. Your URL will also look much cleaner on your CV, business cards and your job applications. Follow the below steps to start customising your URL:
- Go to your LinkedIn profile, and select ‘Edit public profile & URL’ at the top right of the page
- At the top right of the page underneath ‘Edit your custom URL’, click the pencil icon and enter your new URL
- Click ‘save’ to complete the change
- Update your URL on places where you currently have it linked (e.g., your business card)
