What questions to ask at the end of an interview..

  • Do you see any gaps between my CV / experience and the job requirements?
  • What are the opportunities for career progression?
  • What sort of training do you offer?
  • Who would I report to?
  • Is this a new role, or has someone left (and why!) ?
  • What are the biggest challenges for someone in this role?
  • What is the company's future looking like? (ie relocation, takeover / merger, product pipeline etc)
  • How long have you worked here? Why did YOU decided to choose this company?
  • Do you think I'll be a good cultural fit?
  • Where does this role fit in with the company's goals?

Clearly this is not an exhaustive list and you need to prepare your questions BEFORE the interview. They may even be questions that already you know the answer to. Just make sure you've got something to say, but don't go on forever, 3 or 4 questions should be enough, and watch for the body language of your interviewer - if she starts packing up her things, it's time to wind down.
