How to Add a Career Break on LinkedInOn March 1st, LinkedIn announced a new feature allowing users to add career breaks to their profiles. According to LinkedIn, 51% of hirers say they are more likely to contact a candidate when they provide context about their career breaks, and this feature is aimed at making it easier for candidates and recruiters to have open conversations about these breaks.

There are currently 13 options available to users to describe their career breaks:

  • Bereavement
  • Career Transition
  • Caregiving
  • Full-time Parenting
  • Gap Year
  • Layoff / Position Eliminated
  • Health and Well-being
  • Personal Goal Pursuit
  • Professional Development
  • Relocation
  • Retirement
  • Travel
  • Voluntary Work

This new feature will be made available to all LinkedIn users over the coming weeks and will appear under the Experience section of your profile once the + icon in the top right corner of the section has been selected. Using this new feature will help you to give recruiters a clearer image of who you are and what skills and experiences you have beyond the workplace which is becoming even more important to recruiters post-pandemic.
